This post is based in Ealing’s Committees and Scrutiny Team in Democratic Services.
The team is responsible for managing the council's decision-making process (ensuring that the correct procedures are followed), as well as maintaining and updating the council forward plan.
The committee section clerks a wide range of member level committees including Full Council, Cabinet, Overview and Scrutiny committees, as well as regulatory and quasi-judicial committees and panels including Planning, Licensing and School Admission Appeals.
This role offers an interesting opportunity working at the heart of the organisation, working closely with senior officers and Councillors making key decisions that directly affect the lives of residents.
You will be responsible for:
• servicing member level bodies, including decision making and scrutiny meetings
• preparing and publishing agendas in liaison with appropriate members and officers and to ensure that they meet all legal and internally agreed standards
• organising and attending the evening and daytime meetings, taking minutes and publishing them.
The ideal candidates will have an excellent standard of written English, strong communication skills, excellent IT skills, be organised and able to work outside normal office hours (typically 3 or 4 times a month).
This is a specialist role and previous Democratic Services experience is not essential as full training and support can be provided to candidates that have the right skills, abilities, attitude and knowledge.
