Principal Officer Child Protection and Review/Child Protection Chair
Are you looking to build on your social work experience and excel in an inclusive, stable and supportive team environment? Then we will give you the opportunity to achieve this within Birmingham Children’s Trust.
As a Principal Officer (Child Protection Chair), you will be responsible for chairing multi-agency Child Protection Conferences for some of the City’s most vulnerable children and young people, whilst proactively contributing to improving their safety and wellbeing. Our safety planning is underpinned by the Strengthening Families approach, whereby you will ensure that parents and children are enabled to actively engage, and the child’s voice and lived experience is at the heart of safety planning.
We are a close knit, supportive team. We aim to communicate well with children and parents, building relationships with families and professionals, respectively challenging practitioners where necessary. We seek to create a learning culture within the team and to be accountable for our own development. We have experienced and knowledgeable teams across our workforce, access to key resources, specialist social care services and robust multi-agency partnership working to assist you in achieving the most positive outcomes for children and families. We are focused on children and young people’s safeguarding and wellbeing, and we know that supporting our workforce in developing their skills and expertise is key to achieving our goals.
You will play a lead role in ensuring that we are achieving consistently good quality practice and performance and your decision-making skills will reflect our relationship-based, trauma informed practice model.
This is what some professionals and families attending our conferences said:
“The Chair was excellent and managed the whole process so well and in a very empathetic nature.”
“Excellent collaborative work to ensure the best outcomes for the children.”
“The child-centredness approach went really well.”
“The meeting was well run with the dignity of the parent respected.”
Our recent Ofsted Focused visit (Nov21) found us to be:
‘With consistent senior leadership, the trust is establishing a more child-focused culture which supports stronger social work practice. Wide-ranging improvement programmes with key partners are making a positive difference for many children in care.’
