Trainer - Driving Skills
The starting salary for this role is £38,746 per annum, based on a 36 hour working week.
An exciting opportunity has arisen within Surrey Fire and Rescue Service to join us as a Trainer - Driving Skills based at our Reigate Training Centre.
You will be part of a small team responsible for delivering driver training and driver assessments for service personnel. This includes initial Emergency Response Driver Training (ERD) courses and periodic reassessment. You will also deliver specialist vehicle driver training.
Whilst primarily based in Reigate, you may be required to travel around the County to meet the demands of this role. Driver trainers will work a 36-hour week, usually within normal office hours. However, there will be occasions when driving instruction and assessments will need to be carried out in the evenings with compensatory time off during the working week. To comply with forthcoming legislation there is a requirement to occasionally deliver driver training during the hours of darkness. Therefore, a flexible attitude and approach to working hours, and the requirements of training, is essential.

We are looking for someone who is able to communicate effectively in the workplace, both verbally and in writing, as well as having the ability to take the initiative using solutions-based problem-solving skills. You will be able to work unsupervised and have the ability to vary your delivery style based on the needs of your students.
In addition to the above, you will have:
- Clean full manual DVSA driving licence for category B and C vehicles (held for a minimum of 3 years).
- Current DVSA Fleet or Approved Driving Instructor qualification.
- Confidence in using Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
- The ability to remain calm and reliable under pressure.
- Mobility sufficient to enable travel throughout the county.
- A response driving / instructing qualification gained from statutory emergency services authority (Such as Fire, Police, or Ambulance)
Knowledge & Skills - To have one or more of the following :
- Appropriate qualification for teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector at PTLLS or equivalent.
- Accredited vocational awards assessor.
- Good knowledge of the NFCC guidelines and competencies surrounding High Speed Driver Training.
- RTITB Moffett M9 Forklift operator or instructor qualified.
- RTITB hook lift demountable container operator or instructor qualified.
- The ability to prepare reports in line with NFCC published competencies.
- 4X4 off road driver or instructor qualified.
