Salary Range: £48,923 p/a + £5,222 market enhancement, with the opportunity to progress to £54,145 p/a + £5,232 market enhancement - Pay increase pending

Hertfordshire County Council offers an ideal opportunity for highly motivated, enthusiastic and organised Lawyers to join a large and thriving public sector legal team.
The Lexcel accredited Legal Services is currently based in the beautiful Grade II listed County Hall in Hertford, within easy reach by train of North and East London. The role is classed as “Work Anywhere” within the Council’s Ways of Working, and so it is possible that the department could relocate to the County Council’s offices in Farnham and Robertson Houses in Stevenage at some point in the future.
With over 100 employees, it is one of the largest legal departments in local government and provides a full legal service across all specialisms to both the County Council, District Councils and to other public sector bodies.
We are looking to grow our successful Property Law Team, which is central to the broad portfolio of legal work connected with Hertfordshire’s major infrastructure and regeneration projects, estate management, and supporting the wider growth and development agenda for the County and its Districts.

Job Duties:
The Property Law Team provides legal advice and assistance to client departments and District Councils on a wide range of property issues and transactions, and also offers the opportunity to be involved in supporting a number of the Council’s major infrastructure and community facing projects, from Highways through to Adult Care.
We welcome applicants who possesses excellent drafting skills and the ability to negotiate documents for a wide range of property transactions. Ideally you would have comprehensive knowledge of the broad spectrum of property work, including Landlord and Tenant matters, conveyancing, and investigating and advising on the implications of changing legislation and case law, whilst also being interested in developing specialist knowledge in other areas, such as agricultural law.
You should be highly motivated, enthusiastic and organised, with a proactive and “can do” attitude with a willingness to work with internal and external clients across a wide range of property matters.
Previous experience of working within a Local Authority environment would be useful but is not essential. It is possible that the role could involve travel to other parts of Hertfordshire so access to your own transport would be beneficial.
You should be a qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Chartered Legal Executive.
