The starting salary for this position is £29,844 per annum based on a 36-hour working week. The office base for the role is Woodhatch Place in Reigate, however the position covers the west of Surrey. This can be discussed further at interview.

Our Team

The Children with Disabilities Outreach Service are looking for a full-time Senior Support Worker to join our team; supporting children and families in their homes and in their communities following referrals from Social Workers in the Children with Disabilities Team.

We are a countywide service and have introduced this full-time, senior role to ensure we are able to meet current demand and level of complexity of referrals to our service. Our aim is to provide a quality assured service as part of the child's care plan, with the overall mission of improving outcomes for disabled children in Surrey. We are looking to develop our team, predominantly across the West of Surrey.

As a service we have significant expertise in supporting children and young people with complex needs, including autistic spectrum conditions, behaviour that challenges, profound and multiple learning disabilities and associated complex health needs. The team is currently made up of the Team Manager, three Coordinators, three Senior Support Workers and a number of experienced Bank staff.

Your Role

Senior Support Workers are matched to support our children based on their skills and experience, ensuring we provide a consistent service that is specially tailored both to the child's care plan and your strengths. We offer flexible hours of support which includes (but is not limited to): before and after school, weekends, school holidays and some office hours included during the day.

The Senior role is very varied but on a day-to-day basis you will be involved in the following:

  • Both hands-on work in the community and office-based work
  • Providing support and direction to junior and new members of the team
  • Assisting the Coordinators in the smooth running of the service
  • Partnership work with other professionals
  • Supporting the service to meet the essential standards of the Care Quality Commission

This is a challenging but genuinely rewarding career where you will play a key role in supporting children to reach their full potential. We will ensure that you receive a comprehensive training package and support, including regular supervision to make sure you feel confident and competent in your role.

We're looking for someone who has:

  • NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Children and Young People, Workforce Diploma Social Care Pathway or similar qualification
  • Good written English and verbal communication skills
  • Experience of working with children with disabilities, complex health needs and behaviours that challenge
  • PBS Practitioner, or willingness to work towards this qualification
  • Competent IT ability including MS Office and database management
  • Ability to plan and prioritise workload in the context of conflicting priorities
  • Ability to work effectively and flexibly as part of a team
  • Full UK driving license and use of a vehicle with business insurance evidenced
