This is an exciting opportunity to work directly with young people who have gone missing.  Upon the return of the young person to either their home or care placement, you will make contact with them to offer a return home interview.  As a team we are seeking to reduce the level of missing episodes and periods for Birmingham’s young people with a view to reducing the risk of exploitation.

You will be working within Empower U, a dynamic multi-agency Exploitation Hub where we are developing an innovative city wide contextual safeguarding approach to issues around exploitation missing and serious youth violence.  We are looking to recruit full time staff who will work flexibly based from a central office working across the region.

You will need good people skills and experience of engaging young people effectively in creative and non-judgemental ways. You will have a caring nature and be professionally curious about why a young person has gone missing and the impact of missing on the child(ren). You will have awareness of why return home interviews are undertaken and the themes and trends around missing children. You will be able to work within an area team approach and with other professionals and local organisations, to identify and address the issues that are leading a young person to go missing. A good knowledge of safeguarding procedures and insight into issues such as exploitation and serious youth violence are integral to the role. The approach will be underpinned by empowering, anti-oppressive, trauma informed and culturally competent practice (training will be provided for this).

Young people will be part of the recruitment process and if you are successful you will be expected to deliver a short activity with a group of children as well as a traditional interview with representatives from the hub.
