Three Rivers District in South West Hertfordshire straddles the north west corner of the M25 on the edge of Greater London. The Department:

Three Rivers District Council has an opportunity for a Principal Transport Planner in the Transport and Parking Projects team.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced candidate to take the lead on delivering a range of Council priorities in relation to highways and transportation.  The role will be responsible for the implementation of highways and transportation projects, regeneration and sustainable environmental schemes across the District.  They would also lead on the delivery of the Council’s parking services and traffic management responsibilities and on the delivery of the Council’s Sustainable Travel priorities whilst acting as a key contact for strategic transportation matters.

With management responsibilities for one permanent Officer, and potential for a second Officer, the successful candidate would lead on the full delivery of highways and transportation schemes from identification and investigation, public and external stakeholder consultation and site visits through to analysing data and implementation of agreed schemes. 

At a time when the Council has declared a State of Climate Emergency this role is ideally situated to pursue the sustainable travel objectives of this Council and make a real difference to the range of sustainable travel modes on offer in Three Rivers.

The role sits within a small team within the Regulatory Services department, in a Local Authority which prides itself in developing and supporting staff.

Skills and Experience:

The ideal candidate will have 3 years minimum experience in a planning environment dealing with transport related issues and be able to demonstrate their ability to lead, manage and successfully deliver projects.

Strong verbal and written skills with excellent attention to detail are essential.  The candidate must be able to demonstrate their ability and initiative to handle a diverse and competing workload and work to tight deadlines. Excellent interpersonal skills will be necessary as the position will involve liaising and negotiating with a range of stakeholders including the public, external agents and organisations, Council Members and other Council departments.

The salary range for the role is £35,411 - £38,296 per annum, plus local weighting allowance £951 and the role also attracts an Essential Car User Allowance.  Access to your own transport is essential for site visits.
