Cannock Chase Council is seeking to recruit a talented and enthusiastic Planning Officer to join the busy Development Management team to assist with a varied caseload of planning applications.
Cannock Chase District lies at the northern edge of the West Midlands conurbation and possesses a unique blend of urban and rural landscapes including a large part of the Cannock Chase Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
The district continues to experience growth and development pressure as the area sets itself up to deliver further regeneration through the £20 million Levelling Up funding allocation. This follows on from the opening of the first phase McArthur Glen Designer Outlet at Mill Green with further phases to follow, as well the redevelopment of the former Rugeley Power Station site. The Cannock Chase Local Plan is also progressing that will set out the growth aspirations to 2039.
Whether you are a qualified planner, a recent graduate or someone looking to gain further experience in town planning, this role would provide an ideal opportunity to develop your planning career within a supportive team environment.
The ideal candidate will have an understanding of planning law in relation to development management and should hold English and Maths GCSE’s at Grade C or above or equivalent vocational experience. A candidate without a planning qualification who is prepared to study, would also be supported to achieve a formal qualification. In addition, the team will support the successful candidate through on the job training on all aspects of development management.
You should be well organised and be able to work to deadlines with good report writing skills. You should also have good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, some GIS experience as well as a willingness to learn and work with specialist software systems.
You will also need to have the ability to explain verbally and in written form information on planning procedures and policies to professionals and the general public. You need to have the ability to work effectively as part of a team and the ability to achieve individual work targets with agreed programmes. The ability to make site visits and attend meetings both within and outside the district and the willingness to attend evening and weekend meetings are also requirements to the role.
If you define yourself as a committed, enthusiastic person that takes pride in your work, possesses a good eye for detail and enjoys helping people with excellent customer service we would be delighted to hear from you.
