Learning and Participation Officer
Lincolnshire County Council are excited to be recruiting a new fixed term role as part of the Arts Council National Portfolio Organisation project for the Usher Gallery. The Learning and Participation Officer role will support the learning and exhibitions teams by creating, coordinating and delivering a range of activities on site in the gallery and as outreach across the county.
About the role
This collaborative role will develop and support the learning and participation offers for the Lincolnshire County Council Culture Service in relation to the Usher Gallery and the wider learning and exhibitions programmes. The role holder will deliver a wide range of activities to promote learning, engagement and participation with the gallery and exhibitions as well as facilitating the coproduction of exhibitions via learning activities and interpretation. Organisation of workshops and projects, facilitating learning and participation sessions and contributing to the delivery of the wider community learning programme will be key components of the work.
Working with both the Investigate Learning team and the Exhibitions and Interpretations team this is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced practitioner who has proven ability in engaging both school and community groups with creative arts projects and activities. The Learning and Participation Officer role will assist the Learning Manager, in collaboration with the Exhibitions and Interpretation Manager, in ensuring the smooth facilitation of both formal and informal learning activities and coproduction projects.
Deploying the resources and staff accordingly in order to maximise the effectiveness of the delivery is a key element of the role as well as coaching and training the relief learning assistants and project collaborators. Demonstrating positivity and energy to engage and enthuse the participants is at the core of this role.
In this role you will assist the Learning Manager and Learning Officer in the development, design and delivery of our successful and busy learning programme, including the delivery and organisation of workshops, creation of resources and sharing creative ideas in relation to the Usher Gallery project. You will be well organised and able to respond to the variety of learning and participation visitor needs.
This role may include some evening and weekend working and the successful applicant will need to be able to be flexible according to the demands of the role or sessions they wish to implement.
About you
You should be able to demonstrate experience of working with a variety of groups, preferably across a range of ages and abilities and have good communication and negotiating skills for dealing with the public, colleagues, external stakeholders and volunteers. The Usher Gallery project requires an officer who has excellent planning and organisational skills and the ability to meet deadlines and provide feedback and review for this significant national project. This role will be central to increasing the arts participation and exhibition coproduction offers both in relation to the Usher Gallery and at regional venues/schools to provide experiences for a variety of ages and abilities.
The learning programmes have achieved external awards, for example the Sandford Award, and the post holder will be involved in ensuring the high standards of delivery and service are maintained.
The base site for this role is Lincoln Museum and Usher Gallery but the post requires travel across the region for outreach. It is hoped that the successful candidate will begin working with the project in September 2023. This position is fixed term until March 2026.
