Do you want to work in a place where you can promote reading for pleasure; or help at Lego and code clubs; and even sing at rhyme times for toddlers?  Can you deliver excellent customer service and help people struggling in the digital world?

Our ideal candidate is a reading enthusiast who is more likely to organise a STEM event and tweet about it than say ‘Shhh’. They will be passionate about helping all members of the community and sign posting to other council services that provide help and support.  Libraries are about books, community and so much more! We’re offering this brilliant opportunity for you to join us as we continue to innovate. From day one you’ll be working in a customer focused environment, in a busy community hub that serves a diverse range of people, partners and organisations.

About the role

We are proud to offer an environment that is supportive and rewarding, working as part of a team who are passionate about the work they do. We offer great training and development opportunities, with supportive management.

The post holder will be based between For All Healthy Living Centre Library, Weston-super-Mare and Worle Library and Children’s Centre, Mendip Avenue. The post holder could also be asked to work in any other North Somerset library. The post is for 16 hours a week, to be worked on a fortnightly pattern as follows:

Week 1: Monday 9:30-1 (HLC), Wednesday 9-1 (HLC), Thursday 1-5 (HLC), Friday 12-5 (HLC)

Week 2: Monday 9:30-1 (HLC), Wednesday 9-1 (HLC), Thursday 1-5 (Winscombe), Saturday 9-1 (Worle)

This post is exempt under the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions) Order 1975 and is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.

About you

We are looking for enthusiastic, well-motivated people to provide a welcoming environment to our customers. You will be hard-working and receptive to change, with a wide general knowledge, an interest in books, and a digital curiosity. You’ll be capable of working alone as well as within a team, dealing with enquiries and requests, planning and delivering interactive activities, and promoting our services. You’ll be encouraging the love of reading through a range of promotional activities. Confidence in the use of digital technology is essential; as you will be helping customers to use our equipment and their own and get online.
