Library and Digital Support Officer (3 posts)
Barnsley has an ambitious strategy to re-energise our Library Service, creating community and digital hubs at the heart of our communities and developing a vibrant events and activities programme to engage all members of our communities. Barnsley Libraries has National Portfolio status which brings lots of opportunities to think and deliver differently, giving us an exciting 3 years ahead. With Library@TheLightbox , part of the town centre Glassworks scheme and now our work to refurbish our branch libraries starting with the newly refurbished Hoyland, Roundhouse and Dodworth libraries, this is an exciting time to join the service. Barnsley Library Service is growing and evolving to meet the changing needs of our customers. We have lots of exciting things happening and opportunities for people to come and work for us. As we become more digital, we are bringing on board lots of new initiatives and projects to meet the varying needs of our customers.
We have 3 vacancies for Library and Digital Support Officers, and this is a great time to come and join us. As a Library & Digital Support Officer you will be the public face of our service. Our libraries are about books but are so much more. For our Library Information & Digital Support Officers no 2 days are the same – you may be helping customers with their book choices, letting them know about our digital offers and helping them to get up and running with these, you may be delivering one of our Learn My Way courses, helping our customers get online or you may be doing something more interactive such as running a story and rhyme session or building robots in our Makerspace. You’ll work with partners such as health, museums, schools to deliver exciting things for our customers. Part of the role will be carrying out customer service appointments for our colleagues.
We are looking for people who engage well with others, are hard-working and can rise to a challenge. You’ll not be afraid to get involved, step out of your comfort zone by doing something different and will have the skill to think on your feet dealing with whatever arises in the most appropriate manner. Although you will have a base library you will be working across all our libraries, so you need to be flexible and able to do this.
Barnsley Council is a high-performing council with clear and tangible ambitions for its residents, communities, and stakeholders. The council’s 2030 vision is for Barnsley to be the place of possibilities, If you think this may be the job for you just fill in the application form online telling us how you meet the criteria within the job role.
