Lead HR Consultant (HR Advisory Team)
We’re appointing a Lead HR Consultant in the Schools HR Advisory Team that will report to an HR Manager. This is an essential role in a traded service where the provision of a high quality professional service is critical.
Lead HR Consultants in this team:
- Provide managers with consistent, pragmatic and effective advice on the management and resolution of people issues covering a wide range of HR areas, mitigating risk to the organisation whilst optimising resources to deliver highly effective and creative solutions.
- Work in partnership with the client group at a senior level to establish an excellent understanding of their service and the challenges they face to proactively identify opportunities for operational and strategic intervention capitalising on external best practice;
- Manage complex HR&OD casework and projects and provide a high quality, professional and solution-based service to clients.
- Are responsible for leading the development and implementation of HR policy, engaging and consulting with key stakeholders including trade unions and customers, keeping abreast of changes in the education sector, leading communications with schools and contributing to the wider leadership and development of the HR service to schools.
One of our key areas of focus as a department is to support the directorates to proactively understand, engage with and respond effectively to the city’s diverse communities and changing demographic.

HR Advisory Services
The remit of the HR Advisory Team will continue to focus on the provision of a high quality professional advisory service to the organisation, and for managing case work to embed a culture of early informal resolution, fairness, tackling discrimination and ensuring that complex employment matters are dealt with effectively and sensitively. The Schools HR Advisory Team also support the management of change and provide professional expertise in leading HR support for reorganisations. Lead HR Consultant roles, reporting to HR Managers, work across schools and the council. The Schools Lead HR Consultants’ focus will be on complex employee relations casework and supporting the HR Manager in developing the team and improving performance, quality and consistency of casework and our service to schools.

Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is less than 37 hours or term-time only.
