At Surrey County Council we know we must harness the power of communities to bring about meaningful change and ensure no one is left behind. We have embarked on an ambitious journey to transform the relationship between the council and its residents from one based on 'doing to' to a culture of listening and 'doing with'.

We have taken some bold steps but are very much at the start of this journey. We are seeking a passionate and visionary Director for Thriving Communities to join the council and continue to develop our approach, working with communities across the county.

As our Director for Thriving Communities you will collaborate with partners at a strategic and practical level to drive community-led action including in key neighbourhoods where health inequalities and life chances for residents are most challenging. You will oversee the council's community investment strategy including the flagship Your Fund Surrey capital fund. You will build lasting relationships with the Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise (VCSE) sector to enable thriving communities.

Working with the Director of Customer Delivery and other senior colleagues across the organisation, you will help us to shift the council's operating model to a focus on creating community capacity for early intervention, prevention, and self-support. Additionally, you will lead the county council's future strategy, approach, and application of social value.

The ideal candidate for this role will have proven experience in community engagement and change, strong leadership and strategy skills, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and a passion for creating thriving communities. If you believe you have what it takes to make a meaningful impact on the lives of residents across the county, we encourage you to apply.
