Waltham Forest became the Mayor of London’s first-ever London Borough of Culture in 2019. It is home to an abundance of culture, creativity, and enterprise – including the award-winning William Morris Gallery, Vestry House Museum, Fellowship Square and the internationally recognised nature reserve, Walthamstow Wetlands, along with a wide range of ambitious arts, events, and experiences throughout the borough.

As a Destination borough, our ambition is for Waltham Forest to be recognised as the best place to live, work, study, visit and invest in London. Our cultural offer is world class, generating and creating tangible social and economic impact for our local neighbourhoods. We ensure we achieve all of this in a sustainable way by maximising our commercial opportunities and responding effectively to the climate emergency.

We continue to aim high and ensure that Waltham Forest continues to grow as a Destination borough, engaging residents, enabling creativity, celebrating our individuality, and utilising our resources to ensure viability, impact, and legacy -  a place where diversity flourishes. We are working with local creative enterprises to curate an exciting and engaging cultural offer and destinations programme, building on our rich heritage from across the borough to bring together our residents, communities, and visitors to share and participate in an array of experiences.

We are currently looking for skilled and passionate individuals to join us to establish Waltham Forest as a platform for local enterprise and a thriving destination for local people and visitors, celebrating local communities, creativity, and diversity.

The Head of Cultural Site Development is an exciting new role, and key to realising the Destinations Strategy https://democracy.walthamforest.gov.uk/documents/s87295/Appendix%201%20-%20Destinations%20Business%20Plan.pdf.  As a member of the management team, you will have responsibility for development of new cultural sites and operating models across the Destinations Department including master-planning of future assets, working with council colleagues including regeneration and property.  A key priority will be to lead on the Revitalisation of Vestry House Museum Vestry House Revitalisation Project – Vestry House Museum which has recently been awarded £4.4m Levelling up Funding as part of the wider Walthamstow Culture programme.  You will also lead on related external funding activity for new and redeveloped assets.

We’re looking for experience in managing complex programmes, ideally in a heritage and customer focussed environment. An ability to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, including members, senior officers, residents and communities is essential, as is an entrepreneurial and innovative approach to ensure financial and environmental sustainability of our assets and activities.  If you wish to have an informal discussion please contact lorna.lee@walthamforest.gov.uk.

Interviews are scheduled for the 8th June
