Following significant investment, the Liverpool City Region has established a Race Equality Hub to address the significant inequalities experienced by Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic communities and bring about improved racial diversity across public, private and 3rd sector businesses and organisations. This represents an ambitious, exciting and innovative approach to how race equality will be achieved and builds upon the city region’s reputation for social justice and equality.

The Hub has been set the ambitious task of closing employment gaps between Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic residents of the LCR and their white counterparts, and will create over 1,500 new jobs, provide training and support to over 400 businesses, and give direct support to individuals to become job-ready or develop their careers. The Hub will also provide advice for minority ethnic entrepreneurs and business owners who want to establish and grow businesses, and guidance for mainstream businesses to diversify their workforces and implement positive action schemes.

We are hiring an Outreach and Engagement Office who will develop a programme for networks of minority ethnic communities, to help access to Hub services.

This is an excellent opportunity for a passionate individual to make a real change in their community and will help drive the creation of a more equitable society, by developing a strategic vision, and to lead its operational implementation.

Key Role and Responsibilities

  • To develop an engagement programme with a range of minority ethnic communities, particularly those communities who are not well networked.
  • Raise awareness of the Hub, improve signposting and referrals and help improve access to Hub services.
  • Ensure the capturing and measuring of feedback from the public and stakeholders on how to improve access to Hub services. This includes advising senior managers on what action to take to shape and influence future service improvements.
  • Development of new networks for Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic businesses and to enable and negotiate for minority ethnic businesses to access a range of existing employer networks across LCR.
  • Work closely with other team members to foster and support an anti-racist and inclusive culture.

Required skills and Knowledge

  • Understanding of and appreciation of the historical and contemporary barriers in employment and skills and business development experienced by Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic communities within the Liverpool City Region and their implications
  • Lived experience and knowledge of the specific challenges faced by Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic communities within the employment and skills landscape
  • Able to develop and maintain healthy working relationships with a diverse group of sometimes challenging partners and stakeholders and experience of negotiating access to services on behalf of groups or communities where there may be a reluctance to engage, tension or conflicting views and priorities
  • Knowledge of developing high-quality operational and implementation plans with appropriate aims, objectives and targets and implementing effective systems to monitor, evaluate and impact measure work and delivery of services.
