Cambridgeshire County Council’s Place and Sustainability Directorate delivers services across areas such as transport, new infrastructure, roads, and the environment. It aims to manage and deliver the growth and development of sustainable communities, meet the challenges of climate change, and enhance the natural environment. 

The Road Safety team sits within the Transport Strategy and Network Management Service and is developing a centre of excellence within the council across road safety disciplines. The council has recently adopted a Vision Zero strategy, which aims to eliminate road deaths and severe injuries by 2040 and is looking for people who share this ambitious vision to join the team leading on the Safe Road and Safe Road User aspects of this strategy. The service operates flexibly, with opportunities to work remotely as well as a central base in Huntingdon but the ability to travel to different locations across the county is essential. 

This is a full-time and permanent post. The closing date is midnight on Sunday 21st May 2023 and interviews will be held virtually on Thursday 1st June 2023.

What will you be doing?

This is a very rewarding role, where you can make a real difference to people’s lives. You will lead a centre of excellence, maintaining and improving knowledge and expertise in road safety and providing input to the Vision Zero Partnership Strategy. 

You will oversee projects and programmes, produce reports, lead and manage a team and build strong working relationships with the other organisations in the partnership.  

You will have some budgetary responsibility and will need to comply with risk, health and safety and procurement legislation and policies. 

A key part of the role is also community and stakeholder engagement, as well as sharing knowledge and providing advice. 

There will be opportunities for learning and development up to degree level and the prospect of playing a key role in delivering an ambitious road safety strategy that will benefit all road users in Cambridgeshire.
