Specialist – Senior Traffic Management, Parking & Road Safety Engineer (TMPRS)
We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Traffic Management Specialist to join our expanding Highways team. We will look to you to supervise, plan, develop and improve the existing road network with a view to managing traffic, parking and road safety for the benefit of the borough’s residents, businesses and visitors.
As the Senior Traffic Management Specialist, you will manage a range of traffic and road safety programmes, to ensure effective and timely delivery across a number of key projects.
Key Responsibilities will include:
- Engagement with customers, colleagues and elected members and Thames Valley Police over traffic, parking and road safety issues and keeping of clear records using the Council’s email and customer relations management processes
- Analysis, interpretation and presentation of traffic, parking and road safety data for use in the assessment and evaluation of traffic management and road safety schemes. This will include the preparation of plans, drawings and specifications for schemes including traffic signals, pedestrian crossings, traffic calming, speed management, measures to manage parking, HGV’s and to support walking, cycling and public transport.
- Site-based investigatory work and collection of relevant information about traffic, parking and highway conditions
- Establishing costing and managing the programming of projects, placing orders with our contractor and supervision of works on site. Working with our contractor to ensure works are completed as specified
- Managing the Council’s Vehicle Activated/Speed Indication Device Programme, and organising traffic surveys to support scheme assessment and identification.
- Working with the team to prepare Traffic Regulation Orders for parking controls, speed limits and vehicle restrictions, liaison with our legal team to ensure documents are correct and taking them through the statutory process, formal internal decision making process through to implementation
Candidate Requirements:
- Qualified to degree level or equivalent,
- Experienced in working in a local authority and/or highways engineering consultancy context,
- Be familiar with relevant highways and traffic legislation, standards and guidance e.g. Road Traffic Act, Design Manual for Roads & Bridges, Traffic Signs Manual
- Be able to demonstrate their experience of preparing traffic management, parking and/or road safety scheme designs; the drafting of traffic regulation orders and be familiar with AutoCAD for design of engineering schemes, traffic signs and markings.
