Environment Engagement Manager
- Job description
-
This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in delivering the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead’s strategy for sustainability and climate change. You will be an important member of the Council’s growing Sustainability and Climate Change team sitting within the wider Infrastructure, Sustainability and Economic Growth service.
In July 2019 the Council declared a climate emergency and established a Cross-Party Working Group to undertake an in-depth review of the council’s current carbon footprint and to formulate, consult and agree on a net Zero Carbon Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead by 2050 Strategy. The strategy was approved by the Council in December 2020 and we are now delivering against the action plan it sets out.
In this exciting new role you will take responsibility for developing and delivering environmental engagement across the Borough. This will include supporting our new adopted Biodiversity Action Plan but also supporting other areas of sustainability including flooding, carbon reduction and circular economy.
You will lead the environmental educational activities undertaken at the Braywick Nature Centre, liaising with schools and community groups and deliver engaging and informative sessions for both children and adults. We welcome new, innovative ideas on how to engage people in the natural environment.
The Council works closely with the community and businesses to undertake nature conversation across its sites and you will be responsible for organising and coordinating those volunteers.
The role will look to expand the offering from the Braywick Nature Centre and the right person will come with new ideas on how to grow the programme of work.
The role will be mainly based at the Braywick Nature Centre in Maidenhead but there will be some opportunity for homeworking. In addition, there will be a requirement to travel to Council sites across the Borough.
