Birkdale High School is a popular and successful all-boys 11-16 comprehensive Academy with an excellent reputation, outstanding pastoral care and consistently above national average academic results.

The school has seen its numbers rise over the last few years and is oversubscribed.

At Birkdale we aim to be leaders in the education of boys and this starts with a clear focus on developing effective teaching pedagogy and not engaging in educational fads or gimmicks. Our Teaching and Learning development is driven by a focus on cognitive science and educational research and our quality assurance of teaching is developmental rather than judgemental. Our staff are given the space and support to make positive changes to their practice in a risk-free environment; we share best practice, support and challenge each other and are eager to accept our professional obligation to improve methods of embedding the knowledge our boys need.

The Governors are seeking to appoint a dynamic and committed person to join our SEND department.  This is an exciting opportunity to join a successful and inclusive school and make a genuine and significant difference to the lives of children.  The successful candidate will work within the SEND department supporting individuals on the autistic spectrum with complex social and emotional needs.

The successful candidate is required to start in April 2023.  The appointment is temporary until the end of the summer term in the first instance, but could lead to a permanent position.

Further details and an application form can be downloaded from www.birkdalehigh.co.uk or obtained from Ms Karen Anslow at the school.  Completed application forms should be emailed to recruitment@birkdalehigh.co.uk by 12.00pm on Monday 27 March 2023.

Interviews for shortlisted candidates will take place on Friday 31 March 2023.

Birkdale High School safeguards children and actively promotes their welfare.  We expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.  All posts are subject to the acquisition of an enhanced DBS certificate with barred list information through the Disclosure and Barring Service and further checks as required. All teaching positions will also be subject to a prohibition order check.
