Geographic Information Systems Officer

SALARY NS11 £34,723 - £36,298 per annum, pay award pending

37 Hours per week, permament

Do you have a passion for systems administration and the maintenance of GIS platforms?

The newly created Geographic Information Systems Officer could be the role for you!

Working in the Planning Development Business Unit, you will ensure the organisation’s GIS functionality, software and data are kept up to date and in accordance with legislation.

The role will help shape and influence the Council to become more data driven by the use of technology and geographical systems.  You will be required to further develop both the current GIS and the self-service web-mapping platform (for both internal and external users/members of the public) and enhance integration with other systems. You will provide advice to other Business Units including the training of officers on the use of GIS systems, Members, and Parish Councils, on how best to use, manipulate and interrogate data ensuring the use of GIS tools are maximised.

The post holder will be responsible for the ongoing review and procurement of any new GIS software (Newark and Sherwood District Council currently uses ESRI), including writing complex ICT system specifications, ensuring any existing and new software integrates with GIS including sharing of data with external partner organisations.

The successful candidate will have initiative, be highly motivated, enthusiastic, organised and objective.  Relevant HNC and/or appropriate qualification or relevant experience is essential along with a project management qualification or experience of project management. Some evening and weekend work will be required.

Newark and Sherwood District Council is a dynamic and forward thinking authority, covering a large geographic area with great opportunities for economic and commercial growth. The GIS officer will play a fundamental part in advising and influencing where these data driven decisions can provide the biggest benefit to all.

We offer a competitive salary, enrolment in the local government pension scheme, flexible hours, hybrid working, a generous annual leave entitlement that increases with service, a whole host of family-friendly benefits, 1 days’ paid volunteering leave, free staff car parking* and £10 gym membership at one of our four gyms in the district. You will be working with a professional, committed and experienced team who are passionate about supporting us to deliver the objectives as outlined in our Community Plan.

*Free staff parking is valid until 31st July 2024.

As an employer we will promote an inclusive working environment to maintain and develop a forward thinking and diverse workforce.
