Assistant Subject Leader for English

Required for September 2023 or sooner

Meols Cop High School are looking to appoint an inspirational and enthusiastic individual who has a passion for English language and literature, a commitment to ensuing students share that passion and who is able to support the Subject Leader for English in leading and supporting the department. We are keen to hear from candidates who are exceptional classroom practitioners and innovative leaders of people and teams.

This is the perfect role for someone looking for leadership responsibility and an ideal opportunity for someone wishing to take the next step in their career development.

  • You will be a passionate, determined and committed teacher with leadership experience or the ability and potential to take on leadership of people and teams.
  • You will be a really strong teacher, consistently able to teach excellent lessons, deliver support and intervention, and work with the subject leader on implementation planning.
  • You will be enthusiastic about curriculum development and keen to innovate, develop and enhance our curriculum
  • You will be committed to supporting our whole-school aims to improve students’ reading and love for reading, and you will be excited about the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues as we relaunch our school library.

This is an exciting appointment for us; you would be joining a team of strong, aspirational middle leaders who have an incredible impact on our young people. Our subject leaders not only work to have impact on their teams, but collaborate to deliver whole-school plans, working across a range of teams and with a range of colleagues. CPD and development opportunities for our middle leaders are at the forefront, with many engaging in NPQs, leading successful learning hubs across Sefton and working alongside the leadership team in associate assistant headteacher roles. We ensure we invest and support with time for our middle leaders to engage with this vital work.

Our English curriculum and our English teachers are absolutely central to our vision to Broker Aspirations – with a brilliantly sequenced curriculum, rich in beautiful, powerful literature, we intend to inspire our young people through their learning in English, ensuring they develop the knowledge, skills and values that will open doors for their futures. As an EEF appointed Research School, we are passionate about utilising research evidence to inform our English curriculum and pedagogy to ensure that our teaching is of high quality and maximises the benefits on student attainment.

Our English team are incredibly committed and share our whole school vision to empower students. Within this role, Meols Cop High School will offer you extensive career development and CPD; our departments benefit from extensive CPD time affording Subject Leaders time to enhance and finesse their teams and continually improve practice.
