Job introduction

About the role

East Sussex County Council is recruiting for a Flood Risk Technician. This role will help us maintain the high quality of service we offer to the residents of East Sussex and focuses on providing technical support to the Flood Risk Management Team. You will maintain records of flooding and other relevant datasets and, where necessary, undertake site visits and assist officers with their investigations.

The role will include the manipulation and analysis of data in a GIS environment and therefore experience with Geographic Information System software (proprietary or open source) will be a distinct advantage.

Administrative duties also form part of the post and you will be required, on occasion, to assist in the processing of payments for requests for flood risk advice from developers and applications for watercourse consent. It will also be necessary to help with managing our database of consultations on planning applications when work levels are particularly high.

You will be expected to deal with general enquiries from the public and partner organisations and support other members of the team with their casework. You may also be asked to act as the secretariat to flood risk management projects and working groups in the county, and with time you will be encouraged to contribute in a technical sense to flood risk management projects or casework.

For an informal discussion about this opportunity contact Nick Claxton, Team Manager Flood Risk Management at Nick.Claxton@eastsussex.gov.uk to request a MS teams call or phone call.

To apply for this role, follow the “apply now” button. When completing the application please state how you will meet the essential criteria and any previous experience you have.

We offer a diverse range of benefits to help and support you during your employment. More information can be found on our benefits page.
