Senior Waste Officer (Compliance & Enforcement)

As a Senior Waste Officer (Compliance & Enforcement) you will play a critical role in protecting the environment, ensuring legislative and contractual compliance by contractors employed by the Council’s Waste team as well as maximising waste avoidance, recycling, composting and reducing waste to landfill through innovation and partnerships
The key duties of this role include
- Inspections and audits of waste sites, facilities and services, monitoring health and safety as well as ensuring legislative and contractual compliance;
- Managing the team’s day-to-day waste enforcement function, including fly tip inspections, investigations, submitting files for prosecution and issuing fixed penalty notices;
- Line management of our Waste Enforcement Officers (both are currently on 12 month fixed term posts, ending in September 2023); and
- Day-to day management of the Council’s Household Waste and Recycling Centre digital permit scheme, including assessing permit applications, providing responses to service enquiries and developing the scheme.
You should be able to demonstrate a sound understanding of the key issues relating to waste management and hold diploma level or equivalent qualifications in health and safety management and investigatory procedures, or be able to demonstrate relevant experience.
Essential skills and abilities include:
- excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to record detailed, pertinent notes;
- well developed influencing and negotiating skills;
- abilty to prioritise and manage complex workloads; and
- posses suitable levels of self-leadership and personal resilience.
