Our progressive and award-winning Council is thrilled to have achieved Investors in People (IIP) Gold status for how we lead, support and develop people. Now we’d like you to be part of our success. By working together, with each other and with our communities, we can take pride in improving lives. We are looking for the right people to join us in that journey.

Your role in our journey

This is an exciting opportunity to join a highly ambitious, innovative, energetic, friendly and high achieving Public Health team to support the delivery of the Start for Life/Family Hubs programme of work.  The team has strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, making our work more effective in meeting the needs of our population and tackling health inequalities.

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to lead the transformation and delivery of Perinatal Mental Health and Parent Infant Relationship support services across Barnsley. The post holder will provide a Borough wide strategic leadership role in the design, implementation and integration of Perinatal Mental Health and Parent Infant Relationship support to improve emotional health and wellbeing outcomes for children, young people and families.

The post will lead the key strand of the Start for Life/Family Hub Programme to improve perinatal mental health and parent-infant relationships. This will be crucial in driving and supporting integrated approaches to ensure a continuum of service delivery between universal and more specialised services with a focus upon mental and emotional health improvement, prevention of mental health problems and early intervention when problems arise.

Barnsley has a strong foundation for joint working, you will be joining at a time when Barnsley health and care partners are working towards having a strong integrated place-based commissioning system and integrated service provision, as well as being a major partner of the South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw ICS that is one of the leading-edge systems in England.

What you’ll need

To join us, you’ll need a relevant degree and be able to evidence your commitment to continuous professional development. We are seeking a candidate who can demonstrate an understanding of working with parents/carers and their babies/infants during the perinatal period and the impact that this can have on mental health.

All applicants must have excellent skills and confidence and enthusiasm for working with partner agencies, they must have experience of service redesign, managing whole system change and be a skilled communicator with the ability to support effective decision making across the system.

Your track record will include an understanding of commissioning and the development of strategies and policies to change services and outcomes and use of evidence-based project, change and performance management techniques to drive successful change. With a flair for public engagement and partnership working, it is your talent for communication that really sets you apart.

We are investing in our workforce and are promoting opportunities to under-represented groups.  We value equality, diversity and inclusion and are focused on increasing the diversity of our workforce so that our teams reflect the communities in the Borough we serve.
