The SEND Team is pleased to have a new role of Parent Carer Liaison Officer to build and strengthen the Council’s understanding of the experiences of parents, carers, and children/young people of our services. The post holder will work closely with the SEND Casework team and work within the SEND service to design systems and processes which gather and analyse feedback and concerns to inform rapid intervention as well as strategic planning.
The successful candidate will as appropriate and necessary liaise with parents and carers who need support navigating statutory processes or where additional support is required. They will strengthen the relationship with North Somerset’s Parent Carer forum and SENIAS services to ensure that the breadth and depth of parents and carers experience informs the development of SEND Services in North Somerset, helping to coordinate events and programmes.
They will interface with other areas of the Council’s and its partner agencies services where issues overlap or there are specific issues to resolve. They will provide a rich and live picture of our performance as perceived by parents and make recommendations to the Head of SEND to inform system wide improvements.
The successful candidate is expected to carry out their responsibilities using skills that have been gained through relevant academic or professional qualifications as well as practical experience.
We are a busy team and deal with sensitive, and at times, difficult situations. The successful candidates will have good organisational and interpersonal skills, have experience of similar work within a public sector and will need to be able to travel within North Somerset and further afield to support out of area placements.
This post is exempt under the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions) Order 1975 and is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.
