Hertsmere is located in southern Hertfordshire and is an attractive environment in which to live and work. It adjoins Greater London and has excellent road and rail links making London and the Home Counties easily accessible.

A key role has arisen with the Environmental Health Department for an Emergency Planning Officer.

The successful candidate will be the lead for emergency planning and business continuity for the Council.  They will provide advice, guidance, support and training to all council staff involved in Emergency Planning and Business continuity in order for the Council to fulfil its mandatory and elective obligations in relation to Emergency Planning and Business Continuity in its role as a Category One responder for the purposes of the Civil Contingencies Act 2004. 

The role will involve reviewing and amending the Council’s Emergency and Business Continuity Plans, providing necessary advice, guidance and reports to senior managers, members, partner organisations and the Council’s pool of emergency volunteers.

The role will also design and run training via workshops and seminars either on a stand-alone basis or in partnership with other organisations.

 The successful candidate will ideally be qualified to degree level in a relevant subject, have membership of a related professional body (such as the Emergency Planning Society or Business Continuity Institute) and have significant experience in the field of emergency planning. They will be able to adjust to a demanding environment, be accurate and well organised and able to work rapidly under pressure. The post-holder must be able to communicate clearly and effectively with other professionals, elected members and senior managers.

The post is offered on a part-time permanent basis (21.6 hours per week).
