Chelmsford has held a chartered market within its city for over 800 years and is seeking a reliable and enthusiastic individual to work as a Market Attendant on a full-time basis (37 Hours), Tuesday to Saturday, on a rota consisting of two weeks early shifts, starting at 5am, and two weeks late shifts, starting at midday. The successful applicant will need to have a flexible approach to working hours as there will be a regular requirement to work additional hours, covering holidays and sickness. In December there is a requirement to work additional Sundays & Mondays.
The successful candidate will be part of the team responsible for looking after the day to day running of the indoor market as well as setting up the High Street market, several days each week. Working outside in all weather conditions is an essential requirement of this role. The role requires you to drive a small van, so a driving license is also essential.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about delivering excellent customer service to members of the public, fellow traders and employees and visiting engineers. Ideally the post holder will have previous experience in a customer focused role and have the ability to adapt to changing priorities.
Daily responsibilities will include opening and closing the building, cleaning the indoor market, staff and trader facilities to a high standard, using both mechanical and manual equipment. There will also be the need to carry out small maintenance tasks such as the responsibility of clearing waste and recycling as well as completing weekly and monthly legionella tests along with annual PAT testing. Training will be provided for these tasks.
