Edith used to be a nurse and helped others in her life. But now, following a fall, Edith needs help to live independently at home again. Could you help Edith to regain her independence and her confidence? If you think you can, we will teach you the skills to help support Edith to remain at home during her recovery and how to encourage her to participate with her rehabilitation programme.

As a Support Worker, you will assist older adults who have had a spell of illness get back to independence in their own home. Working alongside other professionals, you may initially be providing some personal care, helping with therapy exercises, and giving emotional support to help clients regain the skills and confidence they need to manage these everyday tasks themselves.
You will learn skills for life by becoming a JCR Support Worker Apprentice.
We are looking for enthusiastic, caring, and motivated individuals to become Apprentice Support Workers.
Being a Support Worker is a rewarding and key role, helping older adults who have had an illness or injury to regain their independence at home.
During your apprenticeship, you will work alongside experienced staff delivering high quality care. Your role will be varied and will include:
- visiting clients in their homes
- teaching clients new skills to help regain independence
- making clients comfortable
- talking and listening to clients
- support with meal preparations
- provide assistance/support with personal care
We provide all the training you need - you don’t need any previous experience, just the desire to make a difference. You will also need a full driving licence to meet the travel requirements of the role.
We will support you all the way during your apprenticeship. Our apprenticeship programme offers many benefits from working with a large organisation, including:
- mentoring support
- when you complete your apprenticeship, you will receive a certificate as an Adult Care Worker
- you will be in a permanent role as a JCR Support Worker when you pass your apprenticeship
- there are lots of opportunities for career progression
This role is in the Joint Community Rehabilitation (JCR) team, JCR is a partnership between East Sussex County Council and East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust. The JCR team help people to:
- remain in their own home and maximise their independence
- avoid going into hospital unnecessarily
- become independent as soon as possible after a stay in hospital
There are permanent contracts available ranging from 18 to 30 hours per week. You will be required to work alternate weekends and a mix of shifts.
Full-time staff receive 24 days holiday per year, plus bank holidays – this is pro-rota’d for part-time staff.
The salary is from £21,968 (£11.81 per hour) to £22,778 (£12.02 per hour) per annum pro-rata. This includes an increment for weekend working.

This role is eligible for the ESCC Refer a Friend scheme. Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is part-time or term-time only.
Work Permits: we may be able to obtain a Work Permit for this post but this is subject to meeting the requirements of the UK Border Agency’s Points-based Immigration System.
