Graduate Support Workers
Are you just about to complete your Level 3 Qualification in Health and Care? Have you decided where you want your career in social care to take you? If not, we have just the opportunity for you.
Adult Social Care & Housing Needs are embarking on a brand-new scheme where we will employ 20 new L3 graduates on two-year fixed term contracts as Support Workers. During this time, you’ll be given rich learning experiences in our community re-ablement team, working alongside our experienced community support workers who do ‘with’ people and not ‘for’ people. Once you feel confident, you’ll be allocated a small number of people to help in their own homes, where you will be their key worker, supporting them on their journey to regain their independence. This is all during your first year with us.
In year two you’ll be working on a rotation through the health and social care system here on the island. We’ll secure work placements in a variety of teams that you have a particular interest in. For example, residential care settings or rehabilitation settings where you will work with a wide range of people including adults with disabilities and older people who will need a wide range of support.
This experience will give you the knowledge and experience to help you decide the area in the system you would most like to work.
As well as practical experience, we will help you on your learning journey by offering a wealth of activities to increase your knowledge and skills further. You’ll also receive regular support from a placement supervisor who will see you at least monthly to talk about your journey and what you need to make a real difference to the people we support.
To support you in your long-term career, we’ll also offer you all the help you need with applications and interviews for permanent vacancies when you see the right job for you, wherever it is on our beautiful island.
If you like the sound of this and would like more details, please get in touch with us or complete the application via the link in this advert.
Ideally, you'll hold a UK driving license, be a car driver with a car to use for work for the community element of the role however, applications will be considered for people who cannot meet the travel requirements of the role and you would miss the community element in year one and be more focussed around bed-based services.
This project is supported throughout our Departmental Strategy, Care Close to Home. Please take a look at this in the link here: Viewing Document: Care Close to Home Strategy (Adult Social Care) (iow.gov.uk)
We really look forward to hearing from you
