Teaching Assistant - September 2025 Start

Working as part of the Digital and ICT team you will be responsible for supporting and developing software solutions and provide a technical specialism to the Council to ensure effective, efficient and innovative operation of the Council’s geospatial information systems.&nbsp; You will be responsible for managing 1 FTE (currently 2 part time posts) and carrying out 1-2-1s and the annual performance reviews.
The key functions of the role are detailed below:
GIS
Manage the councils complex ESRI ArcGIS Enterprise server architecture, including:
<ul>
<li>Deploying software updates taking into consideration the effects on other</li>
<li>systems,</li>
<li>Configure and deploy system tools,</li>
<li>Applications,</li>
<li>Patches and security updates.</li>
</ul>
Manage the council’s geospatial databases ensuring system integrity is appropriately maintained, data is accurate, up to date, correctly structured and accessible to all internal and external sources.
Local Land and Property Gazetteer (LLPG)
Manage and maintain the corporate address gazetteer for 65,000+ properties in line with national standards for addressing (BS766:2006), the Data Transfer Format (DTF7.3) and follow the principles for address creation as directed by the Data Entry Conventions standard.
Street Naming and Numbering
Understand the statutory requirements of the acts of Parliament in relation to Street Naming and Numbering and advise senior managers and councillors on the council’s obligation for the naming and numbering of new streets and residential and commercial properties

About the Role
You’ll be responsible for leading a team of officers handling Council Tax, Business Rates, and BID (Business Improvement Districts). You'll manage complex cases, support and coach team members, improve processes, and ensure accurate, efficient billing and collections.
You'll play a central role in maintaining our excellent service standards and helping residents understand and manage their payments. You’ll also lead on team performance, support business continuity planning, and represent the team in internal and external meetings.
Who We’re Looking For
- Experience managing and supporting a team, with a collaborative and empowering approach
- Strong working knowledge of Council Tax and Business Rates legislation and procedures
- Excellent communication and people skills, with the ability to support customers, even in difficult situations
- Great attention to detail, a high level of numeracy, and the ability to manage competing demands
- Confidence with IT systems, particularly Microsoft Excel and Word (experience with Civica Open Revenues is a bonus)
- A professional, solution-focused mindset and a passion for delivering customer-first services
- Ideally, you’ll hold (or be working towards) an IRRV Technician or Level 3 Certificate in Revenues and Benefits

Location
Based at The Burys in the picturesque town of Godalming, with flexibility to work remotely part of the week with the time in the office agreed with The Revenue and Benefit Manager.
