An exciting opportunity has arisen within Guildford Borough Council’s Design and Conservation Team in the role of Senior Urban Design Officer to provide proactive specialist urban design advice and to play a key role in shaping future built development within the Borough.
GBC have adopted two Local Plans over the last 5 years and are just about to embark on a Local Plan update in line with the government’s new plan making process. The existing Local Plan includes a number of very large residential led sites that are still to secure planning permission. Work is also starting on a capacity study in and around the Town Centre that will inform site allocations including guidance on the height and density of development and design coding. To enable the delivery of these ambitions, a highly experienced and qualified Urban Designer is being sought to lead and champion high quality contextual urban design and help shape sustainable development and growth in the Borough.
Working within the Council’s Economy, Planning and Place Service, the role will involve a stimulating balance of casework and strategic policy guidance, and will include:

<li>Leading in placemaking and urban design across the borough, including newly planned neighbourhoods, housing projects, regeneration areas and town centre projects.</li>
<li>Providing proactive design advice on major PPAs and planning applications, as well as working with developers and their representatives on all matters relating to urban design and the built form.</li>
<li>Providing advice on proposals with significant impacts on the public realm and on environmental improvement schemes.</li>
<li>Evaluating existing guidance and producing up to date guidance and policies.</li>
<li>Contributing to ongoing policy work.</li>
</ul>
Applicants should have a recognised degree/post graduate qualification in urban design, planning or architecture as well as proven professional experience within the urban design field role. Excellent verbal, written and illustrative communication, effective time management and a sound knowledge and proactive use of national design policy, guidance and legislation are all essential. You will also have an ability to build a rapport and working relationship with stakeholders, elected members, consultees, colleagues and local communities. The successful candidate will also need to hold a full driving licence and have access to a car.&nbsp;Membership of a recognised professional body (RIBA, RTPI, RICS) would also be desirable, as would experience of working within a local planning authority or similar agency.

Senior Urban Design Officer

37 hours per week, primarily Monday to Friday 9am-5.30pm, with occasional evening and weekend working.Princes Hall are seeking an exceptional individual to lead the Sales and Events activities at the venue. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading on all activities relating to venue hiring, box office operations and marketing activities, managing a team of four permanent and two casual staff. They will be responsible for acting as the primary contact for main hall hirers from initial enquiry through to the event itself, coordinating other departments to ensure smooth delivery of events. <h2>About the role</h2>As one of our Corporate Leadership Assistants, you will carry out varied work and no two days are ever the same. We work with senior leaders, delivering administrative and business support across a range of services.&nbsp;Due to the nature of our politically focused workload which often involves multitasking, it can be challenging, but also very rewarding. &nbsp;We work with Directors, Corporate Directors and Cabinet Members to deliver a range of services. Examples of activities that you would be involved in:<ul>
<li>Provide a time management/diary service&nbsp;</li>
<li>Arranging and coordinating meetings with a diverse range of internal or external stakeholders</li>
<li>Organising appropriate, cost-effective travel itineraries</li>
<li>Maintain an effective ‘bring-forward’ system for the collation of papers&nbsp;</li>
<li>Develop and promote customer focused thinking to improve the customer experience, working across teams and coordinating cross-service responses</li>
</ul>All our posts involve a degree of one-to-one interaction with Directors, Corporate Directors and/or elected Member and so manage up. We are also looking for flexibility as we on occasion adjust our work schedule to fit meetings outside of office hours and at a range of location at short notice.We are also looking for the following skills:&nbsp;<ul>
<li>Strong organisational and time management skills to work effectively under pressure, meet deadlines and prioritise own workload within a clear framework.</li>
<li>Ability to use initiative and judgement to identify urgent matters or resolve more varied or complicated problems.</li>
<li>Ability to communicate straightforward information clearly and deal with challenging people and situations calmly and confidently whilst providing a courteous and efficient service, exercising sensitivity, diplomacy and tact.</li>
<li>Literacy, numeracy, research and analytical skills.</li>
<li>Ability to review current systems and processes and suggest new ways of working to improve efficiencies.</li>
<li>Ability to provide support to other members of staff e.g. induction and guidance to new starters.</li>
</ul>Extensive ongoing training and support is a key part of the Corporate Leadership Assistant role. Within the new structure, there are also opportunities to deputise for the Corporate Leadership Senior Assistants. You'll build links with staff from across the organisation becoming the ears and eyes of the organisation keeping the Corporate Leadership Office relevant and responsive to the culture change.We care about our staff, providing a continuous programme of management and peer led support. Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is less than 37 hours or term-time only.
We are a workplace that supports flexibility and employee wellbeing in the way we work whilst providing the best service for our customers. Team and service working arrangements are designed to support both employee work life balance and team collaboration. These would be part of your individual working arrangements alongside any personal preference agreed with your manager in advance of joining. Your contractual location will be the designated council office for your team and travel to and from your contractual location would be at your own expense.
