The HDRC is a new element of National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) research infrastructure based in local government. The purpose is to enable local authorities to become more research-active, undertake new research and use existing evidence to inform decision making and undertake evaluation activities.</p><p>The HDRC will boost research capacity and capability within the council, using research findings to understand how decisions impact on health and health inequalities.The role is about analysing and interpreting complex information, making it accessible to others so it informs decisions about where research is needed and how existing data and intelligence can inform research projects. You will identify, analyse, interpret and present a range of types of information depending on the project, contributing to in-depth needs assessments on diverse topics.</p><p>You will sit within the Strategic Intelligence and Research team reporting to the Public Health Principal Intelligence Analyst; and will also be part of the HDRC Portsmouth team. You will be supporting the organisation to fulfil its public health intelligence functions including the statutory Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA). This will involve a mixture of complex statistical analysis,use of specialist statistical, geographical information systems (GIS) and geo-demographic segmentation software, and presentation of findings in a range of formats including written reports or as meaningful visualisations.</p><p>The role will work with colleagues in Directorates across Portsmouth City Council, HDRC and with external partners, including the University of Portsmouth and HIVE Portsmouth. </p><p><strong>Who is the person</strong></p><p>With experience of applying your skills to the analysis and presentation of data, you will have a degree level qualification in a Public Health, statistics or associated subject, or equivalent experience. You will understand and value the role of intelligence-led and evidence-informed decisions making and have a good understanding of population level data sources, including relevant limitations. You will have a theoretical knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research and be skilled at turning data into meaningful presentations and reports, communicating to a wide range of audiences. With a high level of proficiency in using MS Office packages, including Excel and Access you will also have used other advanced programme languages such as R, DAX, Python or similar for statistical analysis. Experience of using Power BI or other similar applications used for data management, analysis and reporting. What is the role?
