The Private Sector Housing Team improves residents’ lives by making their homes healthier and safer through maintaining or raising housing standards, installing energy efficiency measures and adapting homes so that people can live independently.
If you are passionate about making a difference to people’s health, safety and independence and your focus is the resident before the building, this is your chance to lead the team and raise housing standards in and for the community as the council’s technical expert in private sector housing law.
Whether you are developing and empowering colleagues to take effective action, speeding up adaptations or leading strategy development and initiatives to improve homes you will be at the centre of driving ever better services with a dynamic team dedicated to improving the standard of homes, their warmth and their accessibility.
You will need:
- Experience of leading projects and/or teams as well as leading or supporting change and/or service improvements in partnership.
- Experience of regulatory housing enforcement (including HMO licensing), inspection, preparing statutory notices and schedules of work;
- Practical experience of identifying and tackling hazards under the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS) and enforcement in line with the Housing Act 2004;
- An Honours Degree (2:2 or above) in Building and Construction/Construction Management, Surveying, or a qualified Environmental Health Practitioner with housing experience or equivalent qualification or an HND and three years’ experience; and
- A certificate of competence in applying the Housing Health and Safety Rating System;
- ILM level 5 in management or equivalent, or management experience and a willingness to undertake study to reach this level.
In this role there will be the need to travel within the local area for which you will receive a casual car-user allowance.
