The Leighton Buzzard Centre is more than a place where you can find books, it is a valuable resource for the community and provides a place for members of the public to apply for jobs, research topics of interest and take part in clubs. It is also home to Leighton Buzzard Theatre.
We are looking for an enthusiastic person, able to provide a first class service to customers at Leighton Buzzard Centre. You will deliver a high level of customer service and interact effectively with a wide range of people on a daily basis. The day to day duties include, assisting customers to use our self service terminals, finding books and information for customers, taking part in promotional activities for both children and adults and dealing with library stock. You will actively promote and encourage the use of the Library, Theatre and Adult Skills & Community Learning services, by meeting and greeting, floor-walking and other activities. You may also be expected to carry out Front of House responsibilities during Theatre performances including working with bar staff, technical staff and volunteers, and assisting on Health and Safety matters including potential evacuation of the venue.
Helping to deliver a vibrant, high quality, relevant and sustainable library service by contributing to Library Strategy priorities, you will engage with new and existing customers. By doing this you will help to increase library usage and support the continuing modernization and transformation of this important service.
Experience of working with the public in front line customer service, IT skills (GNVQ level 2 or equivalent) and an interest in books, reading and information are essential. While experience of working in a library would be advantageous, more importantly you will bring with you enthusiasm, great communication skills and excellent customer service.
Although you will be based at one library, you must be able to work flexibly at other libraries if required. The post has fixed hours on a two week timetable including working alternate Saturdays.
