Folkestone and Hythe District Council is located in a picturesque area of East Kent, characterised by historic towns and villages, an extensive coastline and outstanding countryside.

Our mission is to create a world class quality environment that will stand the test of time with an exciting and ambitious range of major applications coming forward, including a proposed garden town at Otterpool Park and a drive to accelerate the regeneration of the Town Centre, Harbour and Seafront. We are looking for energetic, skilled and creative planners to help achieve this.

To help us deliver our ambitions, we have created a number of new roles to add capacity to the service and act as lead planning officers.

The roles will suit experienced planners who are commercially minded and place-making focussed. You will have a track record of successfully leading major development projects through the planning system and of delivering high quality, sustainable development. You will also possess outstanding technical knowledge, have excellent communication skills and be able to lead project teams. A passion for good urban design will also be important as we continue our drive to secure great design.

We are looking for someone with either public or private sector experience of dealing with a wide range of planning and related applications, including major applications. You will also have experience of appearing at public inquiries and/or informal hearings.  If you feel that you are the outstanding individual that we are looking for, and if you are up to the challenge and would relish this opportunity, we would welcome your application.

The post holder will be expected to be educated to degree level, have a professionally recognised planning qualification and either be a member of the RTPI or be eligible for membership.

In return, we can offer you a chance to thrive, develop and make a lasting impact on Folkestone and its surrounding areas. The roles are permanent and have a competitive salary and there will be opportunities for further training.

We would also be interested in hearing from Senior Planners and Planning Officers along with planners who may be interested in taking the first step towards managing a planning team.

For an informal discussion please contact Lisette Patching (Development Management Manager) on lisette.patching@folkestone-hythe.gov.uk or 01303 853448

The closing date for receipt of all completed application forms is 12pm on Wednesday 17 July 2019.

Interviews will be taking place on Wednesday 24 July 2019.
