About the role
Surrey County Council is a progressive authority, and is one of the leading local authorities in Transport Planning with a strong reputation.
The Transport Policy Team has a successful track record in developing and securing infrastructure funding to support economic growth and regeneration from the Department for Transport, Local Economic Partnerships and Regional Transport Boards and acts the project sponsor through scheme development and delivery. The Team also works closely with a range of teams across Highways, Transport and Planning. Partnership working with others such as the Boroughs & Districts and other transport providers is a key function. The Team are also responsible for developing Transport Policies to tackle important issues of Congestion, Air Quality and need for Sustainable Travel.
Opportunities have arisen for graduates with a relevant degree who are looking to develop a career in Transport Planning & Policy to join this forward thinking and successful Team, working on securing funding bids and the early development of schemes following the Department of Transport 5 Case Business Case methodology to secure funding for major transport infrastructure.
In this role you will plan and manage for effective project development and implementation and contribute to the design and development of transport engineering solutions and prepare and control budgets.
Effective team working and relationship building is essential, as you will be working with colleagues across the organisation and with key external partners which will require a positive can-do-attitude.

- Significant experience in transport planning and major schemes development
- Highly motivated, willing to work at a pace and the opportunity to develop the required attributes to achieve professionally qualification through an appropriate professional body i.e. CIHT,ICE,TPS,MRTPI
- Ideally educated to Master Degree level in appropriate technical discipline or working towards or attained TPP equivalent
