We are looking for an experienced and forward-thinking Policy Research Officer to support our Councillors and inform high-quality and outcome-focused scrutiny across the range of policy areas and services delivery issues that affect Mid Devon.
Working as part of the Member Services team, you will be responsible for supporting the work of the Scrutiny Committee and Policy Development Groups, as well as additional time-limited task and finish groups as may arise. This will include assisting in the formulation of the annual scrutiny work programme, developing lines of inquiry with Elected Members, project managing review work, undertaking directed research, writing reports, liaising with expert witnesses, and providing policy advice and recommendations within a political environment.
The ideal candidate will be someone who can work confidently with Councillors, with excellent written and oral communication skills, and who is able to research, understand, interpret and explain complex issues across a wide spectrum of public policy work.
Days of work required for this role are Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday morning to ensure business needs are met.
A satisfactory basic disclosure check and three years complete employment history will be requested in the event of you being offered the position.
