About the role
Applications are invited for a skilled and experienced candidate to strengthen the delivery capacity of our dynamic Economic Development team. This key position is for a driven and enthusiastic individual who is able to take a lead role in the development and implementation of a variety of economic development projects, including working with partner economic development teams, commercial agents, relevant service representatives and our Local Enterprise Partnership.
With a successful track record of supporting local businesses and high level network engagement, you’ll build strong relationships, identify and pursue opportunities to assist with local growth, inward investment, employment & skills, funding applications and premises research. You’ll also play a key part in interacting with public and private sector partners to facilitate improved productivity, clean business growth and higher value job creation in East Devon.
Qualified to degree level and with demonstrable experience in business and economic development, you’ll have a high degree of commercial awareness, be able to carry out effective research and prepare and present high quality reports in a Local Authority setting.
You’ll be familiar with relevant local and national economic indicators/data sources, the context to our emerging Local Industrial Strategy and have proven experience in project management, delivery and partnership working, as well as the ability to innovate and deliver successful improvement within existing services.
Excellent communication and negotiation skills are essential to the success of this role, as is personal initiative, the ability to work flexibly and with a high degree of autonomy. You’ll need to develop strong working relationships with partner organisations and business community, prepare regular press, business bulletins and ensure delivery of a diverse range of projects to support businesses within the district to meet both global sustainability and national productivity challenges.
