The Looked After Children and Care Leavers Service is a key part of the Children, Families and Education Directorate, ensuring that the council's statutory duties towards looked after children and care leavers are met and that their wellbeing and life chances are strongly promoted. The service has a lead role in supporting the Director, Children, Families and Education to promote effective corporate parenting across the council.
In Portsmouth we ave a highly motivated Children, Families and Education service which works closely with a wide range of partners across the city. This was recognised by Ofsted in our ILACS inspection in 2018 which found us "Good" across the board. Ofsted reflected that "Children are at the heart of social work practice.
As the Head of Service for Looked After & Care Leavers you will lead and manage a range of services supporting looked after children and care leavers developing strategies and working with partners to improve outcomes for children, young people and families.
You will have a secure knowledge and understanding of public law, statutory requirements and high quality safeguarding practice in relation to children and young people. You will be passionate about improving the outcomes for children, whilst inspiring others to do so too.
