You will ensure that the collection of council tax and business rates is maintained to high standards in accordance with government legislation and council procedures. You will be responsible for progressing cases to court where council tax and business rate debts have not been paid following reminders and final notices issued by the council. You will be required to represent the council at the magistrates’ court for application of summonses, liability orders and committal proceedings.
Working in a front line service, with responsibility for staff members, you will need to have good management skills and a working knowledge of debt recovery as well as council tax and business rates billing.
Daily duties will include proactively pursuing the collection of outstanding council tax and business rates, negotiating and setting up payment arrangements, investigating enquiries to bring about satisfactory resolutions and providing general advice to customers on debt matters including the signposting to more specialist debt and money advice.
We may be able to offer flexible working arrangements, including homeworking, which may be considered after demonstrating and maintaining consistently high standards and considering the service needs.
Interviews will be held on Tuesday 13th August
