Miller & Technical Assistant
£20,556 - £20,955 inclusive of Outer Fringe Allowance pro rata
30 hours per week (including Sunday afternoons)
Welwyn Hatfield Museum Service is at the heart of the Borough's heritage. At Mill Green Museum and Mill we operate a remarkable 200 year old working watermill and we are still milling commercially! We also deliver learning sessions that include a tour of the mill to school and other groups throughout the year.
This is a physically active role which will require lifting sacks of grain for short distances (negotiating single flights of stairs), keeping accurate records and being able to converse with members of the public and school children across all ages. Excellent communication skills are therefore essential.
An eye for detail and pride in your work caring for the Mill will ensure that all necessary cleaning and record keeping is accurate and kept up to date so that we maintain our Organic Status is a requirement.
Full training will be given by an experienced miller but you will need to have some technical aptitude, wood working ability and a methodical mind to diagnose faults in moving machinery. An interest in history, sustainable food production, the environment and talking to people confidently is part of this role. Other tasks involve overseeing the relief millers and volunteers.
This post is subject to DBS clearance.
