We are excited to announce that we are recruiting to a new Service Manager post for Adopt London North, the Regional Adoption Agency for North London. Part of four Adopt London Regional Adoption Agencies (RAAs) covering most of London, we are forming as a result of the government’s move to use RAA’s to speed up matching, improve adopter recruitment and support, reduce costs and improve the life chances of some of our most vulnerable children.
Adopt London North consists of the six partner boroughs of Barnet, Camden, Enfield, Hackney, Haringey and Islington, and will be hosted by the London Borough of Islington. This post is offered as a permanent Islington appointment.
We have a long shared history of working together effectively as the North London Adoption Consortium and benefit from existing shared practice arrangements, strong relationships, mutual trust, and a shared vision. As a partnership we are ambitious to develop a service that builds on the existing excellent work being carried out and draws on the strengths and opportunities that come with regionalisation.
In North London we already know from experience that our practice benefits when we share knowledge and ideas with one another and work collaboratively. Therefore, we will be based together as one service in Islington where we can form a strong organisational culture, support and challenge one another, and ensure our services to children and families across North London are consistently excellent. Our practice proposals for Adopt London North have come through practitioner forums and this practice-led development work will continue as we become one agency.
The Service Manager post is an exciting opportunity for you to play a key role in launching and developing Adopt London North, and to work with staff, partner boroughs, adoptive parents and other stakeholders to develop and improve services for children and families.
This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of Adopt London North from launch. The Service Manager will work closely with the newly appointed Head of Service to launch Adopt London North, supporting the transfer of services (including staff and casework) from boroughs, launching new practice models and developing services into the future.
You will be expected to take a particular lead in developing and managing the new single Adoption Panel and managing working relationships with partner boroughs, with the aim of coordinating the improvement of both Adopt London North and local borough services to promote the best interests of children in need of adoption. You will work in partnership with the Head of Service to manage and develop the social work functions of Adopt London North – Recruitment & Assessment, Family Finding, and Adoption Support.
You must possess an excellent understanding of adoption services and have an appreciation of the opportunities and risks presented by the regionalisation agenda. You will have a proven ability to work with partner stakeholders to manage complex services as well as strong and transferable management experience in a relevant area of work. You will be able to commit to work flexibly and diligently to implement and improve services for children in need of adoption in North London.
You will be joining a highly skilled and committed staff group who are focused on the needs of children and adoptive families and who are enthusiastic about opportunities to work to improve practice.
You will be based in Islington, a few minutes’ walk from Highbury & Islington station, with regular travel around the Adopt London North region.
