You will be joining a dynamic and innovative Adoption Service, registered as a Voluntary Adoption Agency and has been judged as Good following a recent Ofsted inspection in February 2019

We are seeking a Senior Practitioner Social Worker to undertake adopter preparation promoting the early permanence options, with ongoing support to children and their new family members through matching activities, supporting their journey to adoption order. You will be completing more complex family assessments in line with statutory timescales. You will contribute to the delivery of our extensive adoption support provisions for families working both pre and post adoption order drawing on your adoption expertise.

Your role will include strengthening the adoption support to Birmingham children in care placed through inter agency arrangements across the UK prior to the making of an adoption order. Drawing on your adoption expertise in developmental trauma, you will work with the team around the adoptive family to coordinate adoption support services building on adoption support plans once family life has become established. Your role will be to ensure the family obtain robust support from their agency, and assisting with commissioning local therapeutic services.

You role will include supervision of staff or students.

About you

You must have be a qualified social work qualification, with a Health Care Professional Council (HCPC) registration, with knowledge and understanding of the needs of children with complex backgrounds.  You must  have experience of adoption support provision to families facing complex challenges with proven skills in effective partnership working with statutory and voluntary agencies. Resilient under pressure, you’ll need a thorough working knowledge of professional social work practices and all relevant legislation. Some experience of supervising students and/or staff is also required, along with an ongoing commitment to professional learning.  

You will be required to travel outside of the city and must hold a valid licence (with access to a BCT hire pool for planned visits).
