Our Values

Here at Barnsley, we live and work by four important values: honesty, teamwork, excellent service, and taking pride in what we do. As part of our team, you can be sure we’ll do all we can to support you in being truly excellent. You see, we prioritise learning and enabling you to achieve your potential. So we’ve created a development process that lets you grow in the way that suits you - whether that’s training to be a leader, or learning flexibly online. That’s one of the reasons why we achieved IIP Gold, and why you’ll find your career here inspiring and rewarding.

The HR Service

Our vision is to provide a high quality, cost effective, customer focused, professional and strategic HR service. Working at the right level and with the right people, our HR Business Partner model enables services to meet their strategic objectives.

We take pride in our responsibilities for developing people strategy, underpinning frameworks and policies which are jointly shared by managers to solve business related problems to ensure the Council's workforce is well-led, positively engaged, and has the support and motivation to perform well in a period of significant change for local government.

Your role in our journey

As a HR Business Partner, you’ll collaborate and work in partnership with our business leaders to provide a variety of excellent advice and support to enable the delivery of business objectives. You will empower our leaders to manage employee resources fairly and equitably. Naturally, you’ll see that they do everything right by best practice, employment legislation and Barnsley’s own culture and policies. As Gold Investors in People, we recognise how very important your expertise will be in achieving our goals and supporting our people. So you’ll enjoy a wide range of interesting challenges - from managing change processes to implementing HR enabling technologies.

To succeed as a HR Business Partner, you’ll need a Chartered Institute for Personnel and Development (CIPD) Level 7 Advanced Diploma in HR Management/Development, plus a commitment to become a Chartered Member of CIPD. You’ll bring to the role significant experience in HR - providing professional advice and guidance to managers, formulating policies, analysing data and solving problems. Committed to working in genuine partnership with others, you have excellent communication skills, strong knowledge of employment law and real insight into the challenges of local government.
