The London Borough of Barking and Dagenham council has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Supervising Social Worker to work in our Fostering Team. The experienced and exceptional candidate will need to demonstrate experience in recruiting and assessing prospective foster families – including short term and respite. This includes undertaking Form F assessments and presenting cases to Fostering Panel.
Special Requirements for this Post
This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and a comprehensive screening process will be undertaken on successful applicants including an Enhanced Department of Barring Services (DBS) disclosure check for Children’s and Adults. The postholder will need to have a social work degree and hold a current HCPC registration.
You will need to work closely with the children’s social workers, attend strategy meetings, LAC Reviews, Fostering Panel and any other meetings as required. You will be visiting Foster Carers and undertake formal supervision and to offer advice and support.
You will need to be able to demonstrate your knowledge of working in accordance with National Minimum Standards for Fostering Services and ability to work within the framework of legislation, guidance and regulations, particularly the Children Act 1989 and the London Child Protection Procedures.
Part of the role will require you to organise and participate in training courses for prospective carers and prepare and present a range of reports, including Strategy Meeting Reports, Stability/Disruption Meeting Reports, Placement Planning Meetings, Social Worker’s Annual Review reports and Long-Term Matching reports.
We’ll also expect you to contribute to the team – helping us develop and improve standards.
