London Borough of Croydon
Croydon is a distinctive and diverse place and is London’s most populated borough. Croydon is about to undergo the biggest development and regeneration programme since the 1960s with £3bn of investment flowing into the borough over the next five years, building a positive future for residents and businesses alike.
We are passionate about the value of public services and our new headquarters has the customer at the heart of what we do. It brings together 75 services including council, Met Police, NHS, Jobcentre Plus, Croydon Credit Union and Citizens Advice Bureau under one roof, allowing us all to work together as one team.
This makes now an exciting time to join our team delivering vital services to over 360,000 residents.
Working in Croydon
Applicants wishing to join our aspiring and progressive adult social care services teams will have a commitment to team working and an enthusiasm for contributing to sharing ideas that support the development of all our services. Candidates will demonstrate professionalism, creativity and drive in their approach to person centred practice and problem solving; and an ability to work flexibly in response to a rapidly changing public service environment. Staff here at Croydon are friendly, and the transport links are excellent. We are the first London borough to be implementing Community Led Support which is a strengths-based approach to social work, seeking to empower residents by focussing on their strengths not deficits and working much more closely with our communities to provide support nearer to home. This will allow us to help people with the right support at the right time to encourage people’s independence and wellbeing for as long as possible.
We are looking for a range of levels of social work experience from qualified through to advanced social workers. Applicants for advanced social work posts will need to be able to demonstrate exceptionally strong social work practice skills and sound knowledge of key legislation, acquired through some years of experience in statutory work and aspirations to extend their practice experience and skills. Candidates at this level will be expected to show evidence of completion of relevant post-qualification award(s), as well as capacity to take on substantial leadership and supervisory responsibilities, which they will already have the skills to take on. Appointed applicants will share in their Manager's leadership of one of the above Teams to deliver progressive services and promote and maintain high standards of practice. They will also support NQSW’s through their ASYE.
In return we offer scope to our staff team to progress their career, develop their individual professional practice, analytical and creative skills, and a department wide commitment to realistic caseloads. Croydon Adult Services operate a case load limit structure, designed to maintain viable workload and support output of work. This is supported by a Council wide programme of excellent learning, development and career progression opportunities, epitomised by our strong ASYE programme and commitment to post qualification training.
