Housing Options Officer

From £21,090 up to £25,587 per annum

Romsey

This is a great time to join a forward thinking and proactive housing team, working within an ambitious and forward thinking local authority! We are rethinking our approach to working with people. With a new emphasis on assessing people’s skills and strengths along with their support needs and risk factors, we want to reframe our relationship with our customers.

Are you a dynamic, customer focused individual who thrives in a busy and challenging customer facing environment? If yes, then we’d love to hear from you.

You will undertake “asset based” assessments with customers, meeting people in the office and in their homes, with a view to understanding the person and identifying and agreeing steps that can be taken by both the Council and the customer, to prevent and tackle homelessness in sustainable and appropriate ways.

The role includes assessing people under the new statutory homelessness framework and providing advice regarding the Council’s statutory duties to prevent and relieve homelessness. You will determine applications for assistance in accordance with all relevant legal requirements. You will also provide advice about the Housing Register, accessing temporary accommodation, and support people to secure private rented sector accommodation.

This role will require partnership working with a range of other agencies and organisations across the statutory and voluntary sectors.

Whilst we are open minded about relevant previous experience, a passion for helping customers, and a working knowledge of housing, landlord and tenant legislation, including issues such as protection from eviction and harassment, and welfare benefits, may be an advantage. Overall, however, your attitude may be the most important factor in securing this role.

Amongst the benefits we offer are the opportunity to join the Local Government pension scheme, a minimum of 24 days holiday and public holidays, and free parking on site.

For an informal discussion please call Gill Darling, Senior Housing Options Officer, on 01264 527771.
