At Wokingham Borough Council we are continuously looking to increase our numbers of apprentices, whether by recruiting specifically to apprenticeship roles or by encouraging existing employees to take up an apprenticeship alongside their existing job, to gain a qualification up to Master’s Degree level. We have an Apprenticeship Specialist to support our managers in the recruitment and ongoing management of apprentices and are now looking to recruit a second person to work in the Apprenticeship Specialist role.

What does the job involve?

You will liaise our training providers, the apprentices, their managers, and apprenticeship related bodies.  The job will be varied, from checking the wording of contracts, promoting apprenticeships throughout the Council and helping to resolve queries with training providers.  Working alongside our existing Apprenticeship Specialist, you will have autonomy to manage our apprenticeship programme in the most effective way.

What are we looking for?

Your personal approach is key.  We’re looking for someone with a genuine interest in apprenticeships and in promoting opportunities for colleagues to learn and partnership working with managers and training providers.  If you have worked with apprentices before that’s great, but we’re open to recruiting someone with a different background in encouraging people’s development and gaining buy-in for this.  You may have a learning and development background, be a line manager, have experience of sales, or work in an entirely different area.  The key attributes we are looking for are:
• The ability to work with different people and relate to different audiences; from apprentices with limited experience of the workplace to senior management at director level.  It’s particularly critical that you can work well with our existing Apprenticeship Specialist!
• The drive to promote apprentices across the Council and the tenacity to follow up with training providers and managers to help make apprenticeships happen.
• The focus to keep track of what is happening with our apprentices and apprentice recruitment, and maintain accurate records for both internal and external reporting and financing.  You will be open to resolving ambiguity, be organised, and comfortable dealing with various IT systems.

What’s in it for you?

• The opportunity to influence how things are done and shape our apprentice programme.
• Flexible hours including the ability to work from home, a generous holiday entitlement and pension scheme.

For an informal discussion, please contact Sandie Evans on 07836 613829 (until Friday 26th April) or Mark Gibbons on 07831 790272 (from Monday 29th April).
