About Croydon

The London Borough of Croydon is a hugely ambitious council. We want the absolute best for our residents and businesses, and are fiercely proud of our brilliant places and people. Our Corporate Plan 2018-2022 sets out a radical new agenda for doing things differently, to create better outcomes for everyone in our borough.

As London’s growth borough, we’re also undergoing a massive £5.25bn regeneration programme that is transforming our town and district centres, and creating new offices, retail, homes and jobs for our rapidly growing population.

C# . Net Software Developer

It’s an incredibly exciting time to be joining Croydon – especially to work on digital, data and technology services. Digital transformation is central to our ambitious plans and we are, in the words of our Chief Digital Officer, not messing around.

We are establishing a new Croydon Digital Service within the council – transforming our ICT team into a GDS-style service that can support the digital transformation of the council, revolutionise our online services for residents, and lead cross-sectoral work to enhance the borough through digital and technical innovation.

We have signed the Local Digital Declaration, committing us to delivering user-centred services that meet the Government Service Standard, and to following the Technology Code of Practice. We seek to collaborate, wherever possible, across London boroughs (led by City Hall) and all local authorities to share learnings, ideas and solutions. We work in the open, inviting feedback and input from our stakeholders.

We are looking for a C# .Net Developer to work in the Croydon Digital Service as we take our digital services to the next level.

This role will work closely with our technology and architecture team as well as key project teams to deliver user-centric services for our users (both residents and internal colleagues), building on Microsoft SharePoint, Dynamics CRM, and other compatible technologies as we evolve our digital estate.

The successful applicant will be joining at an exciting time where innovation and creativity is encouraged to help meet user needs.

Duties will range from carrying out simple configurations, to writing code in accordance with our development framework.

This role will suit a software developer who has a passion for working in an agile environment across multi-disciplinary teams and is excited about contributing to software architecture, design, development and integration of digital solutions.

The Post holder will:

Support the Croydon Digital Service to deliver end to end, high quality user experiences using a wide range of modern technology, including web applications, SQL databases, APIs and Customer Relationship and Case Management Systems

Work as part of a multidisciplinary team within the Croydon Digital Service to ensure applications are delivered into live service using best practice, and are supported and maintained during their lifecycle

Experience:

Experience of development with Cloud technology within Microsoft infrastructure including Azure, Microsoft Dynamics and Sharepoint.

Experience of working in agile, multidisciplinary, highly collaborative teams

Experience of working on both greenfield and brownfield software.

Worked in an environment where the user is at the heart of all digital development work

Continuous improvement of processes and procedures

Experience of working in an environment with competing priorities or demanding workloads.

What’s in it for you?

As well as all the generous benefit packages associated with working for Croydon Council, the successful applicant will also have an opportunity to contribute to the shaping of Croydon Digital Service as we continue to improve our technology to enable us to deliver our ambitious digital transformation plans.

As we are signed up to the Local Digital Declaration, the successful candidate will also have access to many other organisations to learn from and share best practices with.

This is an exciting opportunity to work for a Council with ambitious plans to grow and genuinely want to develop their technology setup to improve customer experience.

As you work for us we will invest in you to help you develop and achieve professional goals whilst also providing you with the opportunity to work with brilliant colleagues as part of an exceptional, high performing team.
