The Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (Dols) Team at Brighton and Hove City Council are committed to providing key statutory safeguards to people who lack capacity to consent to their care and treatment within hospital and care home settings. To support this we are currently recruiting to a Social Work post to undertake this work. We are seeking someone who is experienced at undertaking Dols assessments as a Best Interests Assessor (BIA). You will need to have a strong knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards procedures.
You will be required to undertake Dols assessments within care home and hospital settings throughout Sussex. There is an expectation that you complete 3 Dols assessments per week. You will also be required to undertake duty work to support the Dols Desk Team. You will work with service users who have a diverse range of needs including adults with a Learning Disability, Dementia diagnosis, Acquired Brain Injury and complex Mental Health needs.
Our philosophy is to put excellent social work at the heart of everything we do and our team of dedicated and professional social workers are key to making this a reality by delivering excellent person-centred care and support to vulnerable adults and their families and carers within Brighton and Hove.
We believe our staff are our greatest asset which is why we will give you the time to support you in your day-to-day practice including:
- Regular monthly 1-2-1 supervision meetings
- Bi-annual appraisals
- Support from experienced practitioners and
- Research opportunities
We will also encourage you to further develop your professional practice so you can become the best you can be. We are particularly proud of our unique learning and development pathway (the CLAM) and the opportunities we provide for our staff to participate in innovative projects with our local Universities. We are also a proud partner of a South East Regional Centre for Social Work Education and through our membership of RiPfA you will always be up-to-date with the latest research and new practice.
As a dedicated Best Interests Assessor you will have the option to work from a variety of council buildings throughout the city and to work remotely from home.
So if you are a registered Social Worker with the HCPC and you hold a valid Best Interests Assessor qualification and would thrive in an environment to professional excellence then we would welcome your application.
Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is part-time or term-time only.
Work Permits: we may be able to obtain a Work Permit for this post but this is subject to meeting the requirements of the UK Border Agency's Points-based Immigration System.
From 6 April 2011 the Home Office has placed a permanent restriction on the number of migrant workers that all Tier 2 (General) Sponsors can recruit. Due to the restrictions we cannot guarantee that individuals that meet the requirements of the Points-based Immigration System will be issued with clearance to obtain work permits.
Please note that this post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, and is subject to a Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) Check.
We welcome applications from all sections of the community but particularly encourage applicants from a BME or White Other background as well as those who identify as disabled, male or trans as these groups are currently under-represented in our Directorate workforce.
As part of Brighton & Hove City Council's ongoing commitment to redeployment, please note that this vacancy may be withdrawn at any stage of the recruitment process, without prior notice if a suitable redeployee (internal employee at risk of redundancy) is identified.
