Job Introduction

The Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (Dols) Team at Brighton and Hove City Council are committed to providing key statutory safeguards to people who lack capacity to consent to their care and treatment within hospital and care home settings. To support this we are currently recruiting to a Social Work post to undertake this work. We are seeking someone who is experienced at undertaking Dols assessments as a Best Interests Assessor (BIA). You will need to have a strong knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards procedures.

You will be required to undertake Dols assessments within care home and hospital settings throughout Sussex. There is an expectation that you complete 3 Dols assessments per week. You will also be required to undertake duty work to support the Dols Desk Team. You will work with service users who have a diverse range of needs including adults with a Learning Disability, Dementia diagnosis, Acquired Brain Injury and complex Mental Health needs.

Additional Information

Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is part-time or term-time only.

Work Permits: we may be able to obtain a Work Permit for this post but this is subject to meeting the requirements of the UK Border Agency's Points-based Immigration System.
